style: 12 things that are IN for Fall 2023

Fall weather is coming quickly and with it comes a new season of fashion (yay!). I've had a watchful eye on Pinterest, TikTok, and all my local fashion girlies, and I've come ready to give you the nitty gritty on my predictions for Fall 2023 fashion. Full disclaimer, this is not for the couture girlies who are looking for super trendy and high fashions looks, I am definitely not going to be hitting every trend that will be popular this fall, but rather I want to focus on some classic pieces that will withstand a few seasons of wear. Okay, let's do this-

1. Maxi Skirts- if you've been anywhere for any amount of time in the past few months, you've probably seen a girl in a maxi skirt, and for good reason. They are timeless, effortless, and functional! I'm loving the simple white/black ruffled options, but am also really liking some of the pleated satin skirts that I'm seeing in workwear drops. I think maxi skirts are the perfect opportunity to bring trends into the work place. I'm also really enjoying the denim maxi edit that's all the rage right now and I think that fall is the perfect time to execute it!

2. Denim on Denim- I feel like this comes back every fall, but I've really been playing around with some ideas on how to bring this to life. I almost want to say it's an extension of the coastal cowgirl trend that was/is so popular this summer, like a rodeo girlfriend version, lol. Particularly, I enjoy the combination of a button down denim shirt with a bootleg jean in a similar shade of blue, paired with a bootie of some sort. If that was difficult to follow I suggest you taking a look at my 'style' Pinterest board, linked here.

3. Colorful Sneakers- If you are to wander on over to my Pinterest boards, you'll see a plethora of Adidas in an array of colors. Obviously these won't go with everything, but I love the eclectic vibe they bring to an outfit. I'm personally loving these colorful Adidas Gazelles, very vibey.

4. Quilted Jackets- These were definitely a hit in Fall/Winter 2022 but I am confident they will be around for 2023 as well. I didn't pull the trigger last year, but I recently picked up the Sandy Reversible Jacket from Beloved The Shop, a local DSM boutique, and I'm excited to pull it out when the weather permits. Something I personally love about this specific option is that the interior sherpa lining doubles as a reversible jacket, which was great. I also think a quilted jacket is a good way to throw some color into your everyday that's relatively low commitment, the Free People Dolman Quilted Jacket comes in fun colors!

5. Camping- Going outside of the fashion world, I feel like 2023 Fall is going to the time of being outdoors and unplugging. Don't worry, 'by the day' isn't going anywhere and I'm still planning on posting as much as possible, but I want to be very intentional with my online presence, and hopefully put a stop to the mindless scrolling that Tiktok and Instagram can bring along. Hopefully you'll be catching Matthew, Finn, and I outside of downtown and somewhere with a little more space for us to roam around..

6. Kitten Heels- As a tall girlie, I feel like I've been on this train since I was in middle school, and I am loving the options that this trend is bringing me. Maybe it's the city girl in me, or maybe it's the crippling self-hatred I had for my height as a child trickling down into my adulthood, but I love a tiny heel. It's a dressier option that you can walk around in all night- but be picky with where you spend your money- it's a thin line between cute and classic and a heel made for Grandma. Stay safe out there xx

7. Structured Outfits- Maybe this is just my age showing a little bit, but I am just so grateful that society seems to be coming out of the era of wearing only sweat suits. I'm sure the trend of comfy > everything was compounded by pandemic life behind a screen, but I am in full favor of giving myself the chore of styling an outfit before I go out and about.

8. Color! - You can see that I am loving this trend already with some of the examples I've chosen and my sneaker recommendations, but don't get me wrong, I am a strong believer in the power of the neutrals, and I have no hate to any of the 'neutral only' girlies out there. I see you and respect your choices, and I do think that you can have a execute a neutral wardrobe in a way that is unique to you. However, in my own personal experience. I'm feeling like it's getting too easy to match my clothes together, without the outfit being something fun and unique to me. I'm missing the challenge of bringing different pieces together in a way that is true to me and my own sense of style. I own too many black, white, and brown pieces of clothing and I am excited to add a little more depth to my wardrobe. This excitement for color has surely been encouraged by Matthew and his distain for neutrals- you should see the man dress, he truly looks like he is either color blind or is genuinely trying to fit as many colors he can into an outfit. When we moved in together there was an entire (very serious!) conversation about how he absolutely cannot live in a home without any color, he still complains about the lack of color now and you should see our apartment (there is so much!). I will say I really do love how our home together has turned out, and I want to show you guys what we've created together. Maybe one day I'll get organized enough to show you a house tour ;)

9. Dinner Parties- I think maturing brings on another level of what fun can be, and even in college I thought it would be the most fun thing in the world to cook a massive amount of food and have all the guys over. Obviously now it sounds like the best time ever. I would rather cook (very mid-ly ) an intricate meal and have my friends come over with a bottle of wine (or a j tbh) and us just talk shit and enjoy one another's company. With the return of one Cortney Brunk, these dinner parties have become a much more accessible thing, even if they aren't always pretty, and it's probably my favorite new tradition.

10. Arts & Crafts- we could expand this to all hobbies honestly. When I wrote this down I was specifically thinking about scrapbooking again for 2023, I did it for 2021 and it was genuinely one of the more fun things that I've done with my time. I just bought my first camera and a goal of mine is to take more photos. I am one of those people who are abysmal at documenting their life, so it would be a fun and creative way to be able to look back on the years. I think it's really important to get your creative juices flowing when you can, because if not it's easy to feel unfulfilled. I really encourage you to find your something that makes you feel good!

11. Ballet Flats- This is something that I am a new convert in. As a tall woman, ballet flats were the only option for far too long, which in turn made me hate them. But nothing lasts for forever, with the transition into full-time work (enter office wear), I've changed my mind. Obviously you have to be careful with the styles of flats you choose, but I think they are a great option with the right combination. I talked about the Mary Jane style in my spring style post, and I think those will be popular this fall as well.

12. Overalls- you already have and will continue to see me absolutely rocking these all Fall long (they are a year long staple for me at this point) I think they are so cute and functional. I love them with a tank top, a t-shirt, or even a blouse. I think they are way more versatile than they are given credit for. It may not fall within the preppy category that seems to be so popular right now, but they slay! I own this exact pair from Free People and I think they are so flattering and fun. Very Farmers Only.com vibes

... and that is a wrap on what I had for this post! I'm currently working on some lifestyle pieces for you guys, but I wanted to get a little ahead of the game for fall. Thank you so much (as always) for following and caring about what I have to say, it's so so fun knowing that I have a little group of friends silently supporting me.

Sending you all my love & until next time,
